Zimbabwe prefers to place children in homes of the same race. All interracial adoptions must be approved beforehand by the Minister. Adoptive parents must be residents or citizens of Zimbabwe to be eligible for adoption, unless given prior permission. Married applicants must be at least 25 years old. Single female applicants must be at least 21 years older than the child. Two adoptions by United States citizens were finalized in 2011.
